Diving & Snorkelling in Formentera
The sea around Formentera abounds in a rich variety of marine life and provides exceptional conditions for snorkelling and diving.
The clear waters of Formentera make them an excellent choice for diving, with very good visibility up to 50 meters in depth. In fact the Freus Marine Reserve of Formentera and Formentera is the only natural area the Mediterranean Sea included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. You can dive year round with temperatures ranging from 15 degrees in the winter to 30 degrees in the summer.
Once you are under water there are a variety of landscapes to explore, from caves to shipwrecks, and acres of posidonia. You may even see a shark, as there have been basking sharks spotted off the coastline, and in 2008 an 18 footer was caught.
There are a number of protected species off the coast of Formentera, and you should refrain from disturbing them if you are lucky enough to spot one. Species to look out for are:
- Angel shark (squatina)
- Nursehound (scyliorhinus stellaris)
- Sting ray (dasyatis)
- Electric ray (torpedo)
- Great hammerhead shark (sphyrna)
- Blue shark (prionace glauca)
- Smooth hound (mustelus)
- Seahorse (hippocampus)
- Straightnose pipefish (nerophis ophidian)
- Sea crow (umbrina cirrosa umbrina cirrosa)
All equipment can be provided and qualified multilingual instructors look after you in a friendly and professional way.
Activities also include; marine biology courses, night and wreck dives and underwater photography.

Diving Division Orcasub
Snorkeling trips, diving courses, diving for divers. The Diving Division Orcasub is open from early April to late October and has – internally – 3 3 divemasters and instructors. The staff speaks Spanish, Italian, French and German.
Blue Adventure Adventure is a family-friendly diving center in the Savina Marina, out of the way of the big tourist spots. Yann and his team will introduce you to diving and snorkelling in a friendly and professional setting.
La Isla Flotante
Discovery scuba diving: Half day, max depth 12 meters. Padi scuba diver: 1 day and a half two days, max 12 meters depth with obtaining title. Full scuba gear for the course included in the price. The time period of the courses be adjusted according to the level of student learning.
